Baule diviners were consulted by tribe members seeking assistance with problems such as childbearing or health concerns. Pairs of diviner sculptures are important examples of Baule art. Carved as separate male and female figures, this pair are clearly from the same exquisite hand showing matched gestures, stances, expressions, coiffures scarification and ornamentation.

They have slightly downturned gazes, contained postures and powerful, muscular legs. The elongated treatment of the torsos is typical.
