Aku'aba dolls are regarded as some of the most distinctive artifacts produced by the Asante. If an Asante women had difficulty in conceiving, she would consult.
A priest, who would provide the doll. The Aku'aba was carried, fed, bathed and otherwise cared. For by the woman, as if it was a living baby.
In doing so, it was hoped she would eventually conceive. The doll is 17.5" in length, the head is about 5.75"x 7", the arms are 4.75" wide. Beautiful design on the back of the head.
Has a nice patina and in good condition.
